Probably time for a new trans. At the very least, have a transmission shop look at it to determine the problem.

If you need a new trans, I would recommend a GM remanufactured trans. IMO, most of the rebuilt 700R4's out there are shady at best.

3/4 clutch set is shot , sorry but its time to rebuild it.
if you decide to rebuild yours do the following for a tough rebuild

superoir shift kit
4l60e hicap band will hold and work really good
use a 4l60e torque from 94 to 96 fully furnaced brazed and you can pick your stall from the following 1425 1600 1800 2000
use either a alto pack or thin steels and the green fuzzy 3/4 frictions and set the clearance to .030-.055
always use a new input sprag
always use a new sunshell never ever use one again !!!

the above will give you a strong reliable trans and the changes do not cost a lot more than a "normal" rebuild which is why that is the only way we rebuild our stuff.

there are a few little things you could do such as increasing lube to the rear planet , notching the 2 sun gears for lube , replacing the check ball set for servo accum with a plug , corvette servo , lockup in 4th only , deep 4l60e pan , 5 pinion rear planet .
i feel converting to a 13 vane pump does nothing for you .

consider installing a new tv cable if you think yours is stretched

on a scale of one to ten, ten being the hardest how difficult would it be to rebuild a transmission?

start with something straight forward and forgiving like a c6 a or a torqflite, the 700 just has too many little things to go wrong and frustrate you on the first one you do yourself.
if you are helped by somebody that has built a few auto trans of any type you will be a lot better off and less frustrated.

IMO, rebuilding an auto (especially one like a 700R4) is right at the top of the scale. I can setup diffs, have rebuilt several manual transmissions/t-cases, etc. but I am still afraid to touch an automatic transmission.

Its basically the only thing I don't feel comfortable messing with :dunno:
