I need to make a new steering column because mine is falling apart. I purchased a remavable steering wheel hub from Summit. I was wondering if anyone had any pics for me on how they did their's. Thanks in advance any help would be great. Oh ya I dont drive it on the street at all so i'm not worried about turn signals and all that stuff.

Most of the Chevy guys buy an XJ shaft and put it on the lower half of the stock column.

Try googling steering column fabrication or homeade columns, et.

Here's a cool website I pulled up through Hot Rod that features both retro and universal columns. Not exactly home made but interesting. : http://www.ididitinc.com/

I used an 01 dodge 1500 shaft for the bottom already. My problem is that the bearing on the borrom of the column right were it goes in threw the fire wall keeps falling out. I tack it in a couple differnt times but its just shot. so I need to build a the upper half, the part in the cab.

If you're going with a quick release type of wheel setup and have no interest in any of the other column functions I would just get one of these drag racing solid shaft columns http://www.competitionengineering.co...?CatCode=10183

They will have everything you need to make a shaft, couplers, joints and mounting systems for something like you're doing.
