I know some guys that track their cars and swear by it. My only opinion is that its expensive.

It is expensive at 7 bucks a quart.

The trade off though is that you can run it 12,000 miles. They recommend you continue to change the filter out every 3000. I'll try it and see, it appears to have good characteristics under severe bearing loads.

My last DD used Castrol and went 15000 between recommended changes. Some of the "how often" equation depends on the vehicle.

Very true, each manufacturer has a different recommendation. In truth I imagine it's more for street/race motors than the kind of stuff I do. I was talking to 3-Tree about synthetic versus crude base oils and he mentioned reading something about oil life spans. I'll have to search a bit further.

So what kind of oil and oil filters do you all run?

I normally use Mobile 1, but my last car used Castrol Syntheic 5w50. I change the oil about every 9000 miles on everything except for the Burb which gets changes annually (I don't drive it much)

My truck gets Mobil 1 and gets changed once a year.

My dd gets regular Pennzoil or Castrol, cheap stuff.

I always buy Wix filters from NAPA (the NAPA gold filters).
