| Handed down through my family for a couple generations, much like my Grandpa's .303. I was telling Mike about it the other night and he's trying to pinpoint the age.

| Late 30's, early 40's would be my guess.

| I did a little research, last night................... If you can get the fore end off, try this. Get some muriatic acid, and brush on a 3 inch streak. If the barrels are solid steel, they will just turn grey. If they are damascus, the twists and welds will show up. I wish I could spend a couple of hours with it. I KNOW there were more markings on it, when it was new. Try some steel wool, and WD-40, to clean up the steel, and reveal "hidden" messages. Nitro was an English term for early smokeless rounds, BTW. | |||||||||||

| If I make it out Memorial day I'll bring it in my secret compartment. The receiver is a different metal then the barrels, I took a pic of the seam. The barrels have a blue tint.

| I was telling Mike I thought it might have come up from Kentucky, very interesting. The way I'm reading it the Nitro version had stronger steel barrels. I guess the question is whether they were still Damascus (wrapped) or something else.
