Talking Keep your teeth healthy

So, finally got decent dental insurance, and went to the dentist today. I went in with a bad feeling because I have a loose tooth. Well, after xrays and a peek by my dentist, I was told I have osteoporosis in my jaw that has left my upper teeth with no where to hold on to. (basic reason for this, 30 years of seizure meds which rob me of calcium, and also cause my gums to swell, recede, swell, recede, etc.)

So, starting Wed with a impression, and then the removal of all my upper teeth, at the tender age of 41, I will have a full upper denture.

Atleast my teeth will be straight. This is sooooo weird.

So, make sure to get your annual check ups people!!!

Wow, I'm sorry. I HATE the dentist, I have only had one good experience there, and that's when I got the gas, and they sang nursery rhymes!

Does anyone have any tips for getting several teeth pulled at one time?

Food types beside yogurt and popsicles?

This really bums me out - so any advice would be appreciated.

Think of the great smile I'll have for the election in November!

Try something like Ensure or Carnation instant breakfasts that'll provide you with protein and nutrition, oatmeal, pudding, ramen noodle cups, ice cream, jello, applesauce. Don't be like my husband and take pain meds on an empty stomach, bad news, and don't suck through straws. You can always do smoothies to mix up the soft food thing. Once you recover a little bit, you can try grinding up meats so that you can get some more solid food in your guts. Use lots of ice packs for the swelling and prepare to take it easy for a week or so. I don't think you do but I figure I should mention it, don't smoke-you'll pull out the stitches and it slows the healing process. Do you or would taking a calcium supplement help out with the osteoporosis or do you take something like Boniva?

It'll help with painful gums, we did that with my stepdaughter when she had her bottom braces put in, she still had an overbite and would hit the bottom braces with her top front teeth, she was in serious amounts of pain the 1st couple days so Dad put some bourbon on his finger and rubbed it on. She about puked but did admit that they felt alot better... Dang, we're going to hell for that one...

No advice for ya sorry but good luck. Dentists suck. The one i went to the one and only time had fingers like kielbasas.

I can't imagine not having my teeth. I've actually gotten compliments on them from a couple girls.

When i got the crap beat out of me one girl was actually worried and she said, "Oh man. I hope he didn't hurt any of your pretty teeth." :haha:

I take VERY good care of them.

Yea, that's the problem, the first removal is the 23rd, the second removal is Aug 6th, and unfortunately I can't afford the weight loss.

My son has pretty teeth, he did not get them from us, so I hope he takes care of them.

Hopefully a supply of vicadin will be in order.
