I put on 380 miles, LT and our friend Bruce a little bit more. We started in Grand Junction to Delta to Hotchkiss over Hwy 92 to the Blue Mesa Dam to Hwy 149 to Lake City for lunch. Back to Blue Mesa Dam and here's where the mileage difference happened. Hwy 92 is really twisty and in my beginner biker mind slow going and stressful. There are lots of cliff drops with very few guard rails, lots of turns that say 25 or 30 MPH. I took the turns at the posted speed limit and the road seemed like it took forever. Bruce and LT are ready to go home over Hwy 92, I'm flashing my lights at LT to tell him I don't want to go that way and I want to go on Hwy 50 to Montrose. They kept going, I pulled over and waited for them to turn around. Well after 10 minutes no sign of the guys so I took off on my own to Montrose. LT realized I wasn't in his mirrors and pulled over and waited for a bit. Then he began to worry that I had run off the road and over a cliff, they cruised a stretch of 92 looking for skid marks and after 30 minutes realized that I hadn't run off the road and I'd gone to Montrose. Oh-there's no cell service where we were at-I tried to send a text with no success. We finally got all back together in Delta for supper with my folks. It was a good ride otherwise and hope to make it a yearly trek. Here's pics, LT didn't get any while we were moving so looks like we did lots of standing around.
We saw several places where stuff like this was painted on the hwy. The Harleys that pulled up next to us at this rest area just laughed so not sure if there was a tour going on or what.
